Gordon Sperry, Long Time Volunteer Passes Away

We at the Utah Section PGA are very sadden at the passing of Gordon Sperry. I always equated Gordon’s first and last initials with “Golden Service”. We will all miss his even temperament and even handedness when making a ruling or starting a group in a golf tournament. But it will be the vast amount of “golden service” to the game of golf that will be missed most. He created a legacy of service that is unmatched around the state.

Moody Wins the Section Championship

Chris Moody the 2012 Utah Section Player of the Year came out on top of the challenge winning his first Utah Section Championship title and going in as the top qualifier for the PGA Professional National Championship next June. Moody’s first round even par 72 kept him in contention while his second round 67 sealed the title.

High Winds Challenge Utah PGA Professionals

102 players teed it up Tuesday making this one of the largest fields ever for the Section Championship. High winds tested the Utah Section Golf Professionals and didn’t allow too many low scores in the First Round. There were, however, still plenty of great shots and a few good solid scores. For example Henry White played the wind just right as he holed out for an eagle, 2 on the ninth hole!
