Utah Open Opening Day!

Opening day of the 2012 Utah Open tournament proper was eventful in many ways. Not only was Oakridge Country Club the site of the best golf being played in the state but also the site several other activties and functions.

Earlier this week, Monday through Thursday, over 980 Pro-Am participants enjoyed playing golf in the 7 Pro-ams and shopping in the Nike Tent. The Nike Tent sells a variety of items, all at wholesale prices and is open to the public through the weekend. On Wednesday, the Utah PGA hosted a speical event for Oakridge Country Club members off site at Glen Eagle Golf Course in Syracuse, UT. Congratulations and $100 Nike Bucks to the winning team of Jeanne Shelton, Nancy Lund, Jamie Deppe and Rod Shelton!

The top players in the state as well as several players from surrounding areas teed it up Friday in the First Round of the 2012 Siegfried & Jensen Utah Open. Special exemption and former PGA Tour player Mike Weir was among the field of 156. Weir played a solid round and shot a score -2. Weir undoubtely is the main draw for spectators, as well as a few other big names in Utah including Tony Finau, Gipper Finau and the defending champion Clay Ogden,  Both Finau brothers shot 65 in round 1 and Ogden posted 70.
