PGA President Allen Wronowski was on-hand at the recent Utah Section Annual Meetings to help preview PGA and Utah Section Golf 2.0 plans. President Wronowski fulfilled the promise made at the 95th PGA Annual Meeting in Orlando that every PGA Member needs to hear the important message of Golf 2.0. He promised section visits by the officers of the PGA to all sections that wanted one. The Utah Section Officers jumped at the chance to host the PGA President and President Wronowski more than fulfilled his promise.
2012 Nike Winter Classic Zach Johnson Defends His Title!!
Great golf courses, sponsors and a lot of sunshine welcomed the Utah PGA Golf Professionals to St. George this past week. The Nike Winter Classic has seen snow, wind and rain, but this year the host Professionals did a wonderful job coordinating with Mother Nature to make our event a great success.

Although the temperature was extremely cold in St. George, that didn’t stop Jimmy Blair and Neil Economy from heating up and filling the scorecard with a lot of birdies! PGA Magazine Profiles Local PGA Golf Professionals
Who is that good-looking PGA Professional featured on the back cover of your November issue of the PGA Magazine? None other than Utah’s own Ken Weyand, Director of Golf at Glenwild Golf Club and Spa in Park City, Utah. Just like all PGA Members Ken “wears many hats” in his position at Glenwild, which is one of Utah’s premier golf facilities. However he has really excelled in the areas of merchandising and member services.
2011 Four Ball Match Play Championship
Chris Moody and Matt Baird defend their Four Ball Match Play title!
Moody and Baird came back to beat Jared Barnes and Allen Enochson with a birdie on the 20th hole in the final match. Barnes and Enochson were two up with three holes to play. After some solid play by Enochson and a forty putt by Barnes on fifteen, Moody and Baird looked like they might come up a little short in 2011. Moody and Baird came alive in the nick of time and made birdies at sixteen and seventeen to even the match going in to final hole. The eighteenth hole at the Salt Lake Country Club was halved and sent the match into extra holes.
Ron Branca Announced as Utah PGA Professional of the Year
The name Branca holds a certain acknowledged reverence at The Country Club located on Salt Lake City’s Eastside. Much of that name respect comes from the fifty-some years that Tee Branca served as the Golf Professional at that premier Salt Lake golf club. Now they have another generation of Branca achievement to add to the legacy. Ron Branca has been named The Utah Section PGA Professional of the Year for 2011!
2011 Weather Challenges High School Golfers
The oft quoted refrain that “Neither rain, snow, sleet, nor the dark of night” can keep a postal worker from delivering the mail might also apply to Utah high school golfers this year. High school girls golf teams endured the worst-ever weather year this spring and the boys 3A and 5A high school golf championships played through some of the most challenging weather conditions possible without cancellation!
