Riverside Country Club in Provo, Utah began a focal point for Utah Section PGA Professionals on Monday, April 22. Not only was Riverside’s new clubhouse facilities on display but also the championship course presented a quality test for the Utah Section PGA Spring Pro-Pro and Fourball Championship Seeding. Riverside CC has always been a good championship venue having hosted many Cougar Classics and the original Ben Hogan and Nike Tour Events. However, Utah Section Professionals had the additional challenge of playing in a cool wind for the entire qualifying round.
The Utah Section Fourball Championship seeding is actually a tournament within a tournament. Utah Section players were not only vying for Pro-Pro money but also seeding positions for the season long Fourball Championship.
Partners Mike Borich and Gary Schneiter started this season on fire. They topped the field by shooting a ten under par (62)! Borich shot a sizzling 63 on his own ball. Not a bad score on a cold day in April! The Borich/Schneiter team needed every stroke as Utah County Professionals Ryan Rhees and Tracy Zobell finished one shot back at nine under par (63). A large group of talented teams finished at eight under par (64): Corey Badger/Tommy Sharp; Dustin Volk/Pete Stone; and Matt Baird/Joe Summerhays. All indications are that the Utah Section PGA Fourball Championship will provide an entire season of competitive golf matches.

The Spring Tee-Off Event activities were supported by two longtime Section Sponsors. Charley Carlson from Jenkins/Carlson Golf Accessories represents several golf product companies to the Section. They include several great brand name products like Sun Mountain; Bushnell Range Finders; Antigua Fashion Sportswear; and many more golf accessories. “Chipper Charley” Is the long time Presenting Sponsor for the Fourball Championship and presented each player with a great tee gift and closest-to-the-hole prizes.
