2013 Nike Winter Classic Championship: Jimmy Blair Wins!

Author: N

Great golf courses, sponsors and a lot of sunshine welcomed the Utah PGA Golf Professionals to St. George this past week. The Nike Winter Classic has seen snow, wind and rain, but this year all we saw were temps in the 60’s and sunburns. Golf course conditions were exceptional at each facility. A special thanks to Sand Hollow Resort GC, Southgate GC and Bloomington CC for the great hospitality.

Jimmy Blair was able to dethrone the 2-time defending champion Zach Johnson by just 1 point and win the Nike Winter Classic Championship. The format used at this event is the modified stableford scoring system. Jimmy used an eagle and 5 birdies to rack up the points on the final day of the championship. He had a total of 59 points for the two days and was able to hold off first round leaders Zach Johnson (58) and Dustin Volk (57).  Other winners include Stu Nelson in the Senior division and Tom Rogers in the Super Senior division. We had record participation this week with over 110 Golf Professionals making their way down south.

We would like to thank Mike Stanger, Tari Puana and Nike Golf for their continued support to the Utah Section PGA and the Nike Winter Classic. Mike and Tari rolled out the red carpet with great tee prizes, treats, and perfect weather. Thanks Stang and Tari for all you do for the Utah PGA!

Tournament note: Ernie Schneiter (age 82) shoots better than his age, 77 in the final round at Bloomington CC!
