Monday night, 100 members met as a prelude to the 28th annual Section Championship at the Rainbow Convention Center for the Fall Membership Meeting. President Colby Cowan covered a number of topics critical to golf in Utah. The top subject matter was an introduction to the GAU (Golf Alliance of Utah). This new organization which includes all of the allied Golf Associations has contracted for both an economic and environmental impact study to accomplish representation of Golf on Capitol Hill.
The first round of the Section Championship tees off today at Toana Vista Golf Course in Wendover, NV. Tournament favorites include defending Champion Mark Owen, Chris Moody the 2012 Player of the Year, Steve Schneiter a 4-time Section Champion and 2 time winner of the National PGA Professional Championship, and Jimmy Blair who plays well at Toana Vista and is the reigning Senior Open Champion. With 2 low rounds Blair could sweep the Championships played at Toana Vista this year.
