It rained and it poured as Utah golfers did their best to keep their composure and score at Oakridge Country Club in the local qualifying tournament for this year’s U.S. Open Championship.

United States Golf Association’s local representative Keith Hansen predicted that the low score would be 70. Zach Johnson and Joseph Summerhays proved him right.

SPANISH FORK – Despite hitting his drive out of bounds on No. 18 and making double bogey on the tight par 5, BYU sophomore Zac Blair shot 4-under 68 Sunday to win the snow-shortened Spanish Oaks Open.

The USGA Competitions Committee has announced the tee-times and groupings for the Utah Regional, US Open Qualifying. Local USGA Committeeman Keith Hansen is excited about both the quality of the local field and the host site for this annual event.

Utah Golf Professionals will be vying for the first of the trophies on the Utah PGA’s “Trophy Row” beginning May 16- 19! The Utah Section PGA Match Play Championship begins with a new Pro-Am and seeding event scheduled for Monday the 16th.

The Utah Section PGA officially kicked off its 2011 golf season by holding the Utah Section PGA Membership Meeting and Pro-Pro event on April 18. Alpine CC was the host site for these events for the second straight year. Host Professional Kent Easton and his staff were great hosts with everything except the weather!

It was a rainy day at the Utah Section PGA Spring Pro Pro, but we got it in. Everyone came in wet, but they finished.

Former Chabot Junior College All-American Dane Jensen fired even-par 72 Sunday to go with his sizzling first round 66 to win the Fox Hollow Amateur by three strokes over Devin Purser and four over Dan Horner.

BYU’s Zac Blair shot a seven under par 65 to win individual medalist honors at the Cougar Classic, and although that helped the Cougars to their best round of the tournament they finished in sixth place.

Can you name the golf course pictured on the front cover of the 2011 Utah Book of Golf? This year’s course has been one of Utah’s numerous “hidden gem” golf venues. As you can see by the beautiful clear skies and the beautiful but rugged vistas this is a course worth traveling to.
