Utah Golf Professionals will be vying for the first of the trophies on the Utah PGA’s “Trophy Row” beginning May 1619! The Utah Section PGA Match Play Championship begins with a new Pro-Am and seeding event scheduled for Monday the 16th. Davis Park Golf Course Professional Dustin Volk will begin his defense of the title beginning Tuesday, May 17th. The champion will be crowned on Thursday afternoon completing a rigorous schedule of two matches a day. 2011 Match Play Competitors will be playing for a purse of over $15,000.00.

The Hubbard Golf Club at Hill AFB is this year’s tournament course. This Hill AFB tract is one of the “hidden gems” of northern Utah golf. With restricted access to the base you get private club conditions and feel, and the privilege of playing on some of the best greens around. Host Professional Tony Angelico is excited to be part of the tournament committee that will be elevating the 2011 Match Play Championship to new administrative heights. He notes that “we are excited to be a major part of the 2011 Match Play Championship! Visitors to the Hubbard Golf Club always enjoy the traditional style architecture, the large undulating greens, and the local scenery including the adjacent Wasatch Mountains or maybe a unique plane sighting”.

The VLCM Business Equipment and Networking Company is the presenting sponsor. Their commitment with the Utah Section PGA spans several different events and activities. Their focus for the Match Play event will be at the Pro-Am Qualifying event. VLCM’s guest teams will be hosted along with professional invited course teams to tee-off a great day of team competition. Teams consisting of three amateurs and one golf professional will play for a team purse. Participants will be treated to lunch and refreshments as well as a great tee gift. Other Supporting Sponsors for this event are: The PGA/PGA Tour and Ahead Golf.

The PGA Professional entrants will use the Monday Pro-Am scores to qualify for seeding in the Tuesday Championship Match Play Bracket or the Masters Division Bracket. Golf Professionals can invite club teams to play with them in the new Pro-Am Event, or if you would like your company to be a part of this event please contact the Utah Section PGA. We have several levels of corporate pro-am entry sponsorship available.
