Amateur Golf Stood Loud and Proud at Rose Park Open

Amateur golf stood loud and proud at Saturday’s partially rain-soaked Rose Park Open.

Amateur and 2015 RP Open runner-up Ryan Brimley got over the hump and joined fellow amateur CJ Lee and GolfLab Teaching Professional Tommy Sharp as three-way Champions with rounds of 6-Under Par 65.

Riverside Country Club Professional Matt Baird joined a host of amateurs in Nicklaus Britt, Steven Croft, Dan Horner, Mitchell Schow and John Reid in a tie for fourth place at 5-Under Par 66.

Henry White was the low Senior Professional with a 4-Under Par 67.

Rose Park GC Head Professional Derek Schmehl had a first-hand look at Sharp’s brilliant round and he once again praised the play of up-and-coming amateur players in the tournament he has hosted for several years. “The Rose Park Open has always been about showcasing up-and-coming talent. It is rarely a surprise to see an amateur finish quite highly and even win this event.”

It is worth noting that three former champions of the Rose Park Open, Zac Blair, Tony Finau and Daniel Summerhays all qualified for last year’s PGA Tour FedEx Cup Playoffs.

Sharp earned $1,350 for his victory.
