Riverside CC Asst. Professional Chris Moody won his third straight Utah Section PGA Match Play Title today defeating Tracy Zobell of Gladstan GC 3-2. Moody’s repeat was a lot more challenging than what his final match score would indicate. Zobell entered the Match Play Championship fresh off a Spanish Oaks Open victory and had bested former Match Play Champion Troy Watkins and 2013 Utah Open Champion Zach Johnson on his way to the final match. However Moody again was solid with his game and took control of the match on the back nine holes leaving his fellow professionals to wonder if this was “deja veu all over again”. Moody began his journey to the 2014 Player of the Year title by winning this event last year.
This year’s Match Play Championship also featured its first female competitor! Stacy Jones from In-Motion Junior Golf had a successful first try championship by winning two matches from the forward tees. Our traditional host Hubbard Golf Course at Hill AFB had the course in excellent shape and with a little extra help squeegeeing the greens between matches was able to work around some very wet weather conditions. Our longtime presenting sponsor VLCM enjoyed the best of the weather with their Monday morning pro-am event,
