Would you like to play at the Masters? Here is your chance.

Sunday before the Masters never looked quite like this before. In addition to a few early-arriving Masters participants, there were young girls and boys, some of them barely taller than their drivers, hitting balls off the tee of the Tournament Practice Facility and chips in the short-game area. Other participants in the National Finals of the inaugural Drive, Chip and Putt competition were trying to drain putts on the main practice green between the first and 10th greens and on the 18th green, from more or less the same position from which Adam Scott made his dramatic birdie on the 72nd hole last year.

Moody Defends!

Chris Moody of Riverside County Club has defended his title as the Utah Section PGA Match Play Champion! His back-to-back Championship victories marks the first time in a decade since anyone has won this event in consecutive years. Current Utah PGA Vice President, Chris Stover was the last player to accomplish this feat back in 2003 and 2004.

Drive, Chip and Putt

The Utah Section PGA has announced they will host local qualifiers for the national Drive, Chip and Putt Championship to be held Sunday at Augusta National Golf Club prior to the 2015 Masters Tournament.
The Golf Channel televised the first ever Drive, Chip and Putt Championship prior to this year’s Masters. The event was a perfect event to usher in Masters Week.
At each local qualifier each participant competes by hitting three drives, three chips and three putts. Participants accumulate points for each skill competition;

Gordon Sperry, Long Time Volunteer Passes Away

We at the Utah Section PGA are very sadden at the passing of Gordon Sperry. I always equated Gordon’s first and last initials with “Golden Service”. We will all miss his even temperament and even handedness when making a ruling or starting a group in a golf tournament. But it will be the vast amount of “golden service” to the game of golf that will be missed most. He created a legacy of service that is unmatched around the state.
