Johnson’s two day total of 136 (-8 under par) and was just good enough to edge out last year’s champion Joe Summerhays (137,-7 under par) by one stroke. Valley View GC Assistant Pete Stone finished in third place shooting a 138 (-6 under par) for two days. Johnson and Summerhays will represent the Utah Section PGA at the PGA National Car Rental Assistant Championship that will be held in early October at the PGA Courses in Port St. Lucie, FL. Stone finished as the first alternate with Matt Baird (139, -5) and Troy Watkins (139, -5) finishing as the second and third alternates.

Former PGA National Assistant Champions Chris Moody (141, -3) and Stephen Schneiter (141, -3) both finished under par but were unable to qualify in the tough field.

The Utah Section Assistant Professional Event was hosted by two of Utah’s top golf facilities, Crater Springs Resort GC (formerly Homestead Resort) and Soldier Hollow’s Gold Course. The great course conditions allowed for a very competitive event and results to match.
