Utah Section PGA Professional Jimmy Blair won his 4th Utah Senior Open title today by mastering a very windy Toana Vista Golf Course. Blair’s second round score of 71 (1under par) combined with his first day 69 (-3 under) combined for a 36 hole total of 140 (-4 under). He was able to hold off the competition for and easy five stroke victory. The Toana Vista GC just over the state line in Wendover, Nevada proved to be quite a test for the field of over 100 senior playing in the 2013 Vaughn Barker Utah SR Open Championship. Although the courses, especially the greens, were in excellent shape the wind made the course a challenge on both days.
Roy Christensen finished second to Blair shooting a score of 145. Although Christensen played from the back tees he was still able to win the Super-Senior (age 60+) Division title. Jeff Green and Mike Borich tied for third place with a score of 146. These top four players also qualified to play in the PGA’s Senior Professional National Championship that is played later this year. In addition to James Blair winning the SR Title, and Roy Christensen winning the Super Senior title, M. Don Larsen won the first ever Legends Division for PGA members over 70 years of age.
This annual tradition is hosted by Toana Vista GC and the Rainbow, Peppermill, and Montego Bay Hotels and Casinos. The two day event also included an Honors Banquet honoring this year’s Senior Legend Vaughn Barker. Over eighty amateur players also participated in the event and their results are available at www.uga.org.
