The Utah Section PGA is proud to be part of one of Utah’s greatest golfing programs, Utah High School Golf. As a partner with the Utah High School Activities Association, the Section has the opportunity to be part of the state’s best high school players lives and their golf career development.
Twice a year the Section is able to run the State Championships. In the fall, the boys 2A, 3A, 4A an 5A compete for their state titles. Then in the Spring, the boys 1A and girls 1A-5A compete. Each year the field gets a little stronger and the scores get lower. These kids are getting good. It is so much fun to watch them go through the program and get better at the game of golf.
It is our pleasure to honor the top ten players in each classification at the Annual All State Golf Team Banquet each year. Every player honored receives a certificate from the Utah PGA and a nice gift. This year the gift was a twenty five dollar gift certificate provided by Edwin watts-Uinta Golf. This has become an event that parents and players look forward to all year. Those that have attended say “it’s a banquet that can’t be compared to any other.”Or “It goes above and beyond all other All State Banquets.” Wesley Ruff of Channel 4 News has been the Master of Ceremonies for over 20 years. He adds such a fun spirit to the night. We have had speakers such as Mike Weir, Mike Reid, Craig Bollerjack and even Billy Capser.
This year, we were lucky to again have Wesley MC the event. His wit and humor always makes the night memorable. Our guest speaker was John X. Watson, CEO of Edwin Watts Golf Stores. It was incredibly motivating to hear the stories of his successful career. He motivated the kids we honored that night to make a plan, to write down ideas and drive themselves towards a successful life. Whether that is in golf or not. He quoted Bob Rotella and expressed to the kids that “Life is Not a Game of Perfect,” but that you need to take life’s experiences and mold your lives into something good.
Congratulations to the 100 High School All State Golfers that were honored in 2013. We wish all of you success in your lives and in your golfing careers.
