Spectacular weather and even better course conditions were on the menu this weekend at the 2012 TNT Auction Rose Park Pro-Am and Open. But even those were overshadowed by the red-hot play of Riverside Country Club Assistant Professional, Chris Moody.
The weekend got off to a fantastic start in the Pro-Am on Friday, with the team consisting of Davis Park Assistant Professional Zach Johnson, Kirk Siddens, Kurt Jamison, Jason Struck and J.D Alexander carding a +25 Chicago score. In what was perhaps a sign of things to come, Moody joined Riverbend Assistant Professional Troy Watkins in winning the Professional Sweeps with each carding a blistering score of 65. Utah Section stalwart Jimmy Blair followed close behind with a 66. Moody also took home the top prize in the Mountain America Credit Union Closest-To-The-Hole Contest on Rose Park’s 173-yard 1st hole.
Moody’s scorching play continued on Saturday as he blew through the 6,900-yard par-70 layout. He carded a bogey-free 7-under par 63 that carried him to a two shot victory over BYU golfer Patrick Fishburn and Southern Utah’s Jake Holt at 65. Another Cougar, amateur Devon Purser came in at 4th with a 66. Mark Owen and Troy Watkins joined amateurs Zach Blair, Jeon Seokwon and Stephen Watkins Jr . rounding out the top 5 with scores of 67.
