The Utah Section PGA officially announced the Utah High School Golf Team today. Thirty high school players from each of the top four UHSAA sports classifications were named to either “First Team”, “Second Team” or obtained an “Honorable Mention.” Included in the “First Team” honorees are the individual winners from the UHSAA Fall Boys Golf Championships. 2A Championship Medalist Nicklaus Britt, a freshman from Millard High School led the 2A Classification “First Team” honorees. 3A Champion from Park City High School Justin Shluker; Woods Cross’s Peyton Hastings from 4A; and Alta’s Kenny You from 5A led this year’s class of “First Team All-State” selections.
In that golf is both a fall and spring sport in Utah’s High Schools this announcement includes 2011/12 honorees from the boys fall golf program. The 1A Boys play golf in the spring as do the four classifications of high school girls’ teams. The spring class of All-State golfers will be announced in May of 2012. Also May 24th is the scheduled date for the Utah Section PGA All-State Golf Team Honors Banquet. Over 90 high school golfers from both the fall and spring All-State Golf First Team will be honored on that evening. Parents and coaches are also invited to attend this nationally acclaimed awards banquet.
The Utah Section of the PGA of America has been actively supporting high school golf for over 20 years. Sixteen years ago they developed the Utah High School All-State Golf Program. The All-State Golf selection process is unique among all all-state honors programs in that it is all by the numbers. Thirty-five percent of a players region scores and sixty-five percent of their state championship scores are used to rank each player. No arbitrary or influenced decisions here. Your skills and numbers earn you the recognition.
This is just one of many community based programs that the PGA operates each year to benefit our Utah Golf Community. For more information on junior golf programs or how you can become involved in the great game of golf just refer to the contact information on this webpage.
