Several of Utah’s junior golfers at the Drive Chip & Putt Sub-Regional Qualifier at Rose Park Golf Course punched their tickets yesterday to Torrey Pines and are one step closer to Augusta National.
The Sub-Regional Drive, Chip & Putt Qualifier included golfers from Idaho, Wyoming, Nevada and of course Utah, at Rose Park Golf Course in Salt Lake City. Half of the 16 qualifiers heading to the Regional Qualifier at Torrey Pines in September are our own junior golfers from Utah.
Utah golfers moving on include:
Elliot Bond, Boys 10-11
Cooper Jones, Boys 12-13
Sean Lam, Boys 14-15
Tanner Telford, Boys 14-15
Aadyn Long, Girls 10-11
Jordyn Andrew, Girls 10-11
Victoria Romney, Girls 12-13
Savanna Einerson, Girls 14-15
Utah junior golf will be well represented at Torrey Pines this year with the only age divisions without a Utah-qualifier being the Boys and Girls 7-9 divisions.
Aadyn Long and Cooper Jones are no strangers to the process, or of Augusta National. Both have made it all the way to the national championship held Sunday of the Masters week. This will be the third trip for the Long family as Aadyn’s sister Berlin qualified in the first year of the national event.
Five Qualifying events were held in Utah this year; four Local and yesterday’s Sub-Regional. Our Local events were played at Southgate Golf Course, Rose Park Golf Course, Eagle Mountain Golf Course and Mountain View Golf Course. Thousands of juniors hit three drives, chips and putts each this Summer in hopes to move on to the next stage but only 16 advanced yesterday.
“We’ve had an incredible turnout this year for our Drive, Chip & Putt Qualifiers,” said Annie Fisher, operations director of the Utah Section PGA. “It’s fun to watch our regulars like Cooper and Aadyn go on to Torrey Pines, but I also love how we have some new blood advancing. We wish them all the best!”
