Great golf courses, sponsors and a lot of sunshine welcomed the Utah PGA Golf Professionals to St. George this past week. The Nike Winter Classic has seen snow, wind and rain, but this year the host Professionals did a wonderful job coordinating with Mother Nature to make our event a great success. Golf course conditions were exceptional at each facility. A special thanks to Sunriver, Sun Brook and Sand Hollow for the great hospitality.
Zach Johnson was able to defend his title with a back nine at Sand Hollow that separated him from the rest of the field. The format used at this event is the modified stableford scoring system. Zach used an eagle and several birdies to rack up the points on the back nine and bring home the title. Zach had a total of 61 points for the two days and was able to hold off first round leader Chris Moody by five points. Other winners included Kim Thompson in the Senior division and Reid Goodliffe in the Super Senior division. We had great participation again this week with over 90 Professionals making their way down south.
We would like to thank Mike Stanger and Nike Golf for their continued support to the Utah Section PGA and the Nike Winter Classic. Mike pulled out the red carpet with great tee prizes, treats and we will give him some credit on the weather as well. Thanks Stang for all you do for the Utah PGA!
