Author: N

The summer weather is finally warming-up and so are the Utah Section PGA Championships. Soldier Hollow Golf Course hosted some of the best golf, and yes some of the best weather of the year, Monday June 20th and Tuesday June 21st. BYU bound Devin Purser shot a sizzling opening round 64 to take the first round lead in the Utah Section PGA Junior Championship. Purser followed his first round score with a 69 for a two day total of 133. Purser finished with the 2011 Utah PGA Junior Title and the right to represent the Utah area at the National PGA Junior Championship to be held at Sycamore Hills Golf Club in Fort Wayne, Indiana on August 2-5, 2011.

Tara Green of Harrisville, Utah opened with a round of 74 to lead the girls division. Although Green’s  round score wasn’t as field dominating as Purser’s it still lead her to the Girls Championship. Tara shot a second round 72 to hold off a Heather Mathison challenge. Tara Green will join Devon Purser at the National PGA Junior Championship in August.

Samantha Crawford of South Jordan won the Girls 13-15 Age Division with a thirty-six hole total of 146. The Boys 13-15 Age Division was won by Harry Hanskat of Park City Utah. Hanskat had a two day total of 146. Both Purser and Green were challenged by a quality field of juniors.

Over 108 junior golfers participated in this year’s event at Soldier Hollow’s Silver Course. Soldier Hollow will also host the Utah State Amateur coming up in July. They are also scheduled to host the very first national golf championship to be held Utah. The 2012 USGA Pub-Links Championship is scheduled at Soldier Hollow in July of 2012.
