GAU- All the Buzz at Utah PGA Meetings

Author: By Scott Whittaker, Utah Section Executive Director

The Utah Section PGA Annual Meetings had a distinct allied association feel. The Open Forum Meetings featured presentations from several of our allied golf groups. Utah Golf Association executive director Bill Walker led off with a handicap and club update for the PGA perspective.

New First-Tee executive director Paul Pugmire then updated the golf community as to their mission and the successes that they have had teaching their in-schools program. Mike Smith representing the Web.com Tour Utah Championship event updated the 2014 event and the successes that have been achieved by the Web.com Tour over the past few years. Following Smith was Mike Deaver representing the Utah Sports Commission. The Sports Commission not only is the managing organization for the Utah Championship but Deaver also announced an ongoing out of state travel program titled “Bring Your Shoes”. This program will be coming soon to selected Utah Golf Courses to stimulate Utah’s travel golf industry segment.

The Golf Alliance for Utah has been in the building stages for about eighteen months. It was the privilege of the Utah Section Officers and Staff to announce the rollout of the Economic and the Environmental economic impact studies as well as the formal formation and activities of the GAU.

If you would like more information about the GAU and their mission please contact the Utah Section PGA or the Utah Golf Assn.
