SALT LAKE CITY – In 1980, Jay Don Blake won the NCAA golf national title as a Utah State Aggie. KSL’s Rod Zundel got the chance to talk with Blake, the only Utahn to ever do that, in an interview that will air on KSL 5 Golf Utah.

“I always think about it,” Jay Don Blake said. “I won it in a playoff with Hal Sutton and we’re the same age and see each other out on the Champions Tour still talk about it. To be the only one from Utah to do that – I feel very honored.”

Last year, in his first full season on the Champions Tour, Jay Don finished 34th on the money list, winning over $500,000 dollars in only 15 tournaments. That included being in contention on Sunday in two majors, The Senior British Open and the Senior PGA Championship.

“Hopefully this year we can turn it around and instead of knocking on the door we can step through,” Blake told Rod.

For more of Rod’s interview with Jay Don Blake, watch the season debut of KSL 5 Golf Utah on Sportsbeat Saturday. He will tell us what part of his game he thinks will help him win a tournament this year.

In this week’s show we will show you a new course that is under a year old and was designed specifically to hold a Champions Tour event in Utah.

And we have many beautiful and difficult Par 3’s in the state. We want your help in counting down Utah’s toughest par 3’s. Give us your list of some of the toughest par 3’s in the state and we’ll count ’em down over the summer.

Join us on Sportsbeat Saturday at 11 pm for the season debut of KSL 5 Golf Utah.
